New in 8.4 - Look ahead typing

Posted on August 27, 2008

In the coming 8.4 version, a few more changes from customer feedback.

The first is with the date combo box.  If the date is set to <None>, and the user types a number, the <none> is taken away ready for typing a date in.  However the first number that is pressed is lost.  Which means if you wanted to type the number 11, you would have to type the number 1 3 times.  You now only have to press the 1 twice, as the first key press not only removes the <none> but it also contributes to the date entry.

The second change is with the standard combo box.  Most of the combo boxes now support look ahead typing.  Look ahead typing is something which is becoming more populate these days, where if you start typing into a combo box, it will find the closest match, and as you keep typing it further refines the search.  This might take a bit of getting used to for some people who are used to the old way of typing only the first letter, but it should make people more productive once they get used to it.
